OPERATION Transformation star Adrian Brereton was on hand in O’Connor Park last Tuesday for the launch of this year’s Offaly GAA run and walk.
Following on the success of last year’s event, the organisers have decided to add a dedicated 5km walking loop separate from the 10km run course to encourage more people to get involved.
Speaking at the launch Adrian Brereton said he was delighted to be part of the event and urged all clubs to get involved.
He said it the addition of the walk was important and added that the GAA had a big part to play in keeping kids active.
County PRO Niall Murphy outlined that this year there was no charity associated with the event adding that it was a great chance for clubs to take in additional revenue. He quoted the example of Birr in 2011 who made in the region of €5,000 for the club. He said every club had the potential to raise between €2,000 and €5,000.
The event will take place on May 27 at 11.30am. On-line registration will cost €20 while participants can register on the day for €25.
The race is sanctioned by the Amateur Athletics Association of Ireland and there will be official timing with assistance from Tullamore Harriers and Mullingar Harriers.
