EDENDERRY Town created history for the club at the weekend as an emphatic win over Drogheda Town at home secured promotion from the Senior 1 Division to the top division of Intermediate Football in Leinster.

They did it in style with a 4-0 win as their nearest challengers Dublin Bus looked on. Had Edenderry slipped up, Dublin Bus would have had a chance to pass them in their final game but the Offaly side put the brakes on those ambitions with their clinical win.

Edenderry finished runners up in the Division behind Malahide but their record of 15 wins, five draws and six defeats was more than enough to secure promtion.

Over the season they had the third best goal scoring record (49) and the third best defensive record (32) and that impressive record at both ends saw them through.

What makes the achievement even more impressive is that Edenderry will be the only Club playing at that level with almost the entire squad coming through the schoolboy and youth teams ranks of their club. Last weekend Edenderry also claimed promotion from the CCFL Division 3A title thanks to a 5-1 win over Portlaoise B.

At juvenile level the U-13 squad clinched the double over the weekend with a super 1-0 win over Rathangan. The lads rounded off a great season with a late winner from Rhode’s Anto Kilmurray to bring home the cup.
