AMERICAN Football has become more and more prevalent in Ireland over the last few years, seeing the development of a full league of 11 teams, a development league and multiple Flag Football tournaments being held throughout the country.

Flag Football is a 5 a-side, non-contact version of the game, similar in concept to tag rugby and is aimed at men and women over the age of 16.

A local club has now been started, the Whitehall Titans, by Damian Gillessen and Robert Devery.

They have been playing American Football for 5 years, with Edenderry, Tullamore and Trinity clubs, and trained as referees and coaches. They also founded the Flag Football club in Maynooth University which is still active to date.

The Titans came 3rdh in a recent Flag tournament held in Maynooth, and will be taking part in many more tournaments and games throughout the summer.

The club trains twice a week, at Whitehall estate sports ground, from 7 to 9pm. Training is open for all adults over 16.
