OFFALY Senior Hurling manager Joe Dooley will begin his fourth season at the helm this Sunday when Offaly take on NUIG in the opening round of the Walsh Cup this Saturday at 2pm in O'Connor Park.

It should prove a stern test for the Faithful County as NUIG, formerly UCG, won the Fitzgibbon Cup last year and will be primed and ready ahead of their defence of the title next month.

As with a number of inter-county teams, Joe Dooley will be without his third level players as they will be fielding with their respective institutions.

The winners on Saturday will face Kilkenny in the semi-final. Should Offaly prevail, that will be a home game.

Meanwhile Tullamore's PJ Martin, brother of Westmeath manager and former All Star Kevin Martin, has been selected as the new manager of the Cavan hurlers.
