FOUR Offaly power lifters will be going for gold this weekend at the GPC National Championships in Limerick this weekend.

The event is a full power event meaning the totals lifted in Bench Press, Squat and Dead Lift will be added together to produce a winner.

This event is the main qualifier for the Irish team for the World Championships which will also be held in Limerick in November.

Billy Meehan, Rory Clarke and Maxims Selikis all from Clara and Benny Dermody from Ferbane will all be making the trip with the expectation of at least making the Irish team. Another Clara lifter, Nathan Meehan, will miss the event due to injury. The Offaly lifters have been training hard ahead of the event with a lot of the work being done in Dolan’s Fitness in the Axis Business Park.

The Irish Championships take place this Saturday and Sunday.
