Cullohill Handball Club will cross the Shannon next weekend as they head for Féile nGael 2011. With Galway being the hosts for this year’s competition it promises to be a memorial GAA event with participants from hurling, camogie and handball.

Cullohill is one of 40 handball teams entered to participate, proudly entering both a girls and boys team. The girls team consists of Leah Dunphy (captain), Eimear Delaney, Avril Deegan, Laura Walsh and Elaine Spencer who will be based in Annaghdown. The girls will take on teams from Waterford, Cork and Kilkenny in their quest for All Ireland glory.

Leah, Eimear and Avril represented the club in last year’s Féile in Clare and are hoping their previous experience will aid them in Galway.

The boys team consists of David Doheny (captain), Shane Fitzpatrick, Padraig Delaney, Eoghan Doheny and Pauric Dunne who will be based in Salthill. The boys will take on teams from Dublin, Roscommon and Offaly. Four of the players also represented the club in last years Féile, with David and Shane narrowly beaten in the All-Ireland final.

The players have trained very hard for this event. It’s going to be a great weekend for the players and their parents. Here’s hoping they can go one better and bring home the title to Cullohill. We wish our Cullohill and Laois entry the very best of luck!
