Offaly U-16s claim Leinster Ladies Football Shield

What a great week end the Offaly Ladies have had. Firstly the Junior’s won the Division 4 League Final and then to top it off, the U-16 team claimed the Leinster A Shield Title.

What a great week end the Offaly Ladies have had. Firstly the Junior’s won the Division 4 League Final and then to top it off, the U-16 team claimed the Leinster A Shield Title.

Offaly travelled to Carlow on Monday to play Wexford in the Leinster A Shield Final. This was a tremendous of game with a total of 14 goals and 21 points scored.

Offaly were never in fear of losing this game from the start as the back line was excellent and the ‘keeper Laureen Dunne making a number of vital saves.

Offaly played lovely flowing football and their passing of the ball was exceptional. Offaly got a penalty when full forward Ellie McEvoy was fouled which was easily put away by Roisin Egan. Scores from Anne Daly, Ciara O’ Connor, Aoife Corbett, Claire Connolly, Ellie McEvoy and Roisin Egan gave Offaly a comfortable lead at the Interval. Offaly leading on a 8-7 to 4-2 scoreline.

Offaly got the first score of the second half with a well taken point from Anne Daly. But Wexford notched up 1-1 before Offaly got on the scoreboard again but a succesion of points from Anne Daly and Roisin Egan sealed Wexford’s faith. Offaly came away with a brilliant win on a 8-16 to 6-05 scoreline.
