AFTER making a strong start in their Leinster Club SFC Final against Kilmacud Crokes in O'Moore Park on Sunday, Rhode fell away in the second-half and ended up on the wrong side of the 0-15 to 1-7 scoreline.
AIB Leinster Club SFC Final
Kilmacud Crokes 0-15
Things looked very different for the Offaly champions in the early exchanges as thanks to a Paschal Kellaghan goal, they lead 1-5 to 0-4 after 17 minutes.
However by the time Rhode registered their next score, they were 0-11 to 1-6 behind midway through the second-half.
Despite their troubles in the middle portion of the game, they were still in contention but luck was not on their side in the closing stages.
Firstly Niall McNamee crashed a shot off the crossbar after he outstripped the Kilmacud defence.
Then with three minutes remaining and just three points between the sides, Rhode's captain was denied from the penalty spot after Anton Sullivan had been fouled.
McNamee had another chance on the rebound but his shot was half blocked and then the ball rolled just inches out of the reach of Roy Malone as he followed up. The ball was eventually cleared and with it went Rhode's final chance as Kilmacud held on for the win.
