FRAN Meehan from Killurin will be flying the flag for Offaly at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
After the success of theOlympic Games the Irish Paralympic Team, consisting of 49 athletes representing 20 counties, is now in the final stages of preparation in advance of the Paralympic Games starting on August 29.
Fran will be acting as a pilot in track and road race tandem cycling events where she partners with Catherine Walsh from Dublin.
Sighted pilot Fran and her stoker Catherine Walsh have been in great form over the past two years, becoming Ireland’s most successful Tandem pairing.
They won bronze medals at both UCI World Championships in 2011 (Track and Road). They followed this up with gold in the Segovia leg of the 2011 World Cup. They won gold in the individual pursuit at this year’s UCI Track World Championships in LA.
Impressive performances like this suggest they will be among the favourites at London 2012, which will be Fran’s first games.
For the first time in history the games will be broadcast live and free to air by Setanta Sports in association with Allianz, which means that fans can catch all of the action and support our Irish Paralympic team in their quest for medals. Coverage is available on UPC channel 105 and Sky channel 423.
