Grennan secures back to back victories

LAST week saw the running of two legs of the Winter League. Four teams were picked and every runner scores points for their team.

LAST week saw the running of two legs of the Winter League. Four teams were picked and every runner scores points for their team.

The first leg took place last Thursday night and was run over 3000 metres on the tarmac lap. There was a huge turnout of sixty four runners and this led to two separate races been run to accommodate the big field.

The fastest man on the night was Catch Grennan who was always in control of proceedings and he came home a good winner in 9.52. In second place came the fast finishing Mick Murphy, just ahead of Mark Serviss in third place who were both credited with the same time of 9.54.

Winter League Second Leg

THE second leg of the Winter League was held in Charleville Estate last Sunday on a lovely sunny morning where the course was in surprisingly good condition despite the recent heavy rain. Forty nine runners lined up for the race run over a distance of three miles.

Mark Serviss led the field out for the first of four laps with first leg winner Catch Grennan tucked in behind in the chasing group. Grennan took over the lead on the second lap and stretched his lead all the way to the finish to come home a clear winner by forty metres from Dave Fox who just got the better of Mark Serviss after a titanic struggle between the pair. Richie Galvin took fourth place when getting the better of John Donegan in a desperate sprint for the line. Pauline Curley was first woman home in sixth place.

News Round-up

JIM Langan bounced back to good form with an impressive run in the first leg of the Killarney 5k road series. Jim came in first in the over 65 category and clocked a fast 23.05 in the process.

The club would like to wish Liz Cuskelly and Catch Grennan the best of luck next Saturday when they will be representing Ireland in the Home Nations Masters Cross Country international in Glasgow.
