Special Olympics Leinster is delighted to announce that Shane Lowry has become an ambassador for the region’s sports training and competition programme.

In this role Shane will help to promote the abilities of the 1,962 athletes who participate in the Special Olympics programme in Leinster. Over the next year Shane will help promote the Leinster Regional Events which will run from January to June 2013. It is hoped that Shane’s endorsement will encourage and inspire all of the athletes involved.

Speaking about the announcement Annette Codd, Regional Director Special Olympics Leinster said, “We are extremely proud that Shane has become an ambassador for the Leinster Region. He is a true sporting hero to us all but in particular to our athletes, who through Shane’s success can see that hard work and commitment certainly pay off. I would like to congratulate him on his fantastic win at the Portugal Masters and wish him continued success in the years ahead.”

Last Tuesday, fresh from claiming victory in Portugal, Shane took time out to meet up with a number of Special Olympics athletes from Wicklow and Meath.
