CHILDREN from all over Offaly representing their county at the Community Games National Finals on the weekend put the county firmly on the map with many winning medals at this very high standard.

The Killeigh Team were representing Offaly in the girls U-12 and U-14 relay and the girls U-12 and U-14 100m and finally the girls U-14 80m hurdles. Unfortunately the girls U-14 relay team (Keelin Guilfoyle, Cliona Owens, Katie Dunne, Claudia Darcy and Emma Horan) had to be pulled on Friday night due to injury with a lot of disappointment among the squad. However the remainder of the team went on to do their parish and county proud with all progressing to the semi finals.Claudia Darcy 100m U-14 and Cliona Owens Hurdles U-14 just missed the cut to secure their place in the final. Both ran great races against some very stiff competition.

Emma Darby represented the county in the 100m girls under 12 and did not disappoint when she secured her place in the final.  The under 12 relay team made up of Shauna Sweeney, Lauren Gorry, Megan Kelly, Emma Darby and the dedicated subs Caitlin McDarby and Katie Condron won their semi final to secure their place in the final. Emma ran a great race in the 100m sprint securing herself and the county a medal being placed 4th in a very tight contest. The relay teams delighted the crowd to a very exciting race.

The compere called the race naming the counties in each place but got very excited as he shouted that Offaly were coming up the straight as speed to secure their medal place in yet another very tight finish.  Congratulations to all the the Offaly team from around the county who did extremely well in such a stiff competition.
