At a recent public meeting convened to discuss the establishment of a competitive swim club for children and young people in Tullamore, the election of a committee was deferred until an assessment of demand is first completed.

A local working group has since met, and established guidelines and criteria for children and young people that are interested in joining the competitive swim club in the town. Try outs are being held every Thursday in October from 4 – 5pm and 6 – 7pm in Aura Leisure Centre. There is no cost associated with these try outs.

Sylwia Nowah, who is a member of the working group said, “We hope that anybody who is interested in training for competitive swimming and are already competent swimmers will come to the trials. The standards for the new club are high but will be manageable for most children that have completed different levels of swim training”.

Ms Nowah added, “If a child is not yet achieving the standards set to join the club, parents will be advised of other training they can do to meet the standards”.
