The Tri Grand Prix Kilkenny took place on Saturday last and there were Olympic and sprint distance events for triathletes with a number of competitors from Tullamore Triathlon Club taking part.

The Olympic distance course involved a 1.5k swim, 43k cycle and 10.2k run. John Monaghan completed this course in 2:09:45 to finish in 59th position with splits of 24:36, 1:02:13 and 42:55. The sprint distance comprised of a 750m swim, 24k cycle and 5.3k run and was completed by three club members.

David Monaghan finished in 1:12:06 (121st) with splits of 12:27, 33:37 and 26:01 followed immediately by John Phelan in a time of 1:12:07 (122nd) with splits of 15:31, 31:11 and 25:24. Stephen McQuade completed the course in 1:17:58 (239th) with splits of 15:52, 33:29 and 28:36. Well done to all.

The club would like to wish the best of luck to Craig Murray, competing in the Outlaw Long Distance triathlon on Sunday, July 27. This iron-distance race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and a 26.2 mile run. Hopefully all those long hours of training will pay off.

The triathlon club train every Monday and Wednesday night. If anybody is interested in joining, please contact Ger Lynam on 086-8190518 or email gerlynam77@gmail.com.
