Congratulations to all Tullamore triathletes who competed in Ironman Galway 70.3 on Sunday, September 2.
This was a half Ironman event which consisted of a 1.9km Swim, a 90 km cycle and a 21km run. This was a tough course opening with a sea swim, an undulating cycle on an out and back course and finished with a run along the promenade in Salthill. Competing for Tullamore were as follows (race position followed by category position in brackets):
John Monaghan 283 (67) 5:34:28 with splits of 48:54, 2:45:12 and 1:51:11. Harry Phelan 373 (92) 5:43:21 with splits of 52:31, 2:46:27 and 1:52:49. Ivan Dunne 501 (122) 5:58:18 with splits of 51:34, 2:52:24 and 1:59:05. Tony McCormack 633 (98) 6:17:20 with splits of 45.57, 2:52:14 and 2:26:44. Darren O’Connor 762 (157) 6:38:48 with splits 53:14, 3:23:12 and 2:06:24.
On the August 26, Mark Serviss competed in the Dublin City Triathlon. This was an Olympic distance triathlon comprising a 1.5Km swim, a 40Km cycle and a 10Km run. Mark had an excellent race to finish in 39 position with a total time of 2:24:10. Mark’s splits were 27:17, 1:11:33 and 40:44.
Diarmuid Herlihy was also in action competing in the Tri the Hook triathlon which consisted of a 400m swim, a 22.5Km cycle and a 5Km run. Diarmuid finished in 54th position overall (category 30th position) with splits of 7:04, 49:31 and 25:45.
