The very warm weather made running conditions tough for many but everyone was happy to finish the course on what was a great occasion in Irish sport.

Declan Fahey was our best placed finisher in fine 53rd place in a time of 34.04. Next to finish in 61st position was the inform Mark Serviss whose time of 34.21 was yet another personal best. John Harkin came home in 64th place and took third place in the over 40 category in 34.23.

There were several other great performances on a day where everyone who took part was a winner. Also running and enjoying the day were Conor Butler in 12.32, Michael Murphy with 13.08 and Sean McCormack who clocked 16.59. Well done to all.

Serviss wins Spring League 3000 metres

The third and final leg of the Spring League took place on Tuesday of this week and was run off over a distance of 3000 metres on the tarmac lap. With victories in the first two legs, Catch Grennan was expected to be the man to beat. Catch as is his usual form went into the lead right from the start and had soon established a lead of twenty five metres over Mark Serviss. However Serviss hung in and fought back to overtake Grennan on the third lap of five. Now it was Mark’s turn to build up a lead of twenty metres, a lead he held right to the finish despite the efforts of a fast finishing Grennan who had to settle for second place. Mark Serviss’s winning time of 9.27 was a huge personal best for him with Grennan clocking 9.29. Richie Galvin ran on strong to finish third in 9.46 just ahead of Mick Murphy who clocked 9.50.

With two victories and a second place from the three race series, Catch Grennan was the clear overall winner of the Spring League. Mark Serviss took second place while Richie Galvin was placed third. The team prize was won by Adrian Martin’s team on 1831 points followed by Liz Cuskelly’s team on 1761 points with team C led by Johnny Feery in third place on 1738 points.
