Phoenix Kickboxing, which is based in The Midlands Martial Arts and Training Centre operates three different classes - a Childrens Class on Mondays from 6pm-7pm, a very popular Ladies only class the same evening from 7pm-8.30pm and on Wednesday a mixed class from 8pm-9.30pm.
Since opening last September Phoenix kickboxing - run by instructor John Quigley, 2nd Dan black belt, has gone from strength to strength with students successfully completing their first grading at the start of the year - with some even achieving a double grading! Students are now working hard for their next grading which is due to take place in the next few months - whilst several students are hoping to step into the competition ring before the year is out.
John Quigley explains that ‘kickboxing is advantageous in many ways - its great for self defence, strength, flexibility, co-ordination, balance and of course weight loss’. Self defence techniques are a gift that you give yourself by means of being able to protect yourself and others -something that you can carry through your lifetime’.
Kickboxing is not only a great workout but you are learning to defend yourself at the same time - according to the American Council on Exercise you can burn an average of 500 to 800 calories per hour in a cardio kickboxing class!
