Street Market for Distillery Lane during Arts Festival

A LOCAL street market will take place on Distillery Lane showcasing local food and crafts over the course of the new Tullamore Arts Festival on the May Bank Holiday weekend, May 5 and May 6 next.

There will be up to 20 stalls with locally handcrafted jewellery, craft, homegrown vegetables, sauces, cheeses and jams.

Stalls will be assigned on a first come first served basis, must fulfil local produce criteria as decided by the festival organisers, must not directly compete with shops in the immediate vicinity, and will cost €100 for 2 days trading.

Recesstival Art Galleries will also bring a new concept to Tullamore for the inaugural arts festival.

These pop up galleries will bring fresh and colourful creations to vacant commercial premises and the exhibition will showcase Offaly’s various art and creative forms.

Local artists, photographers and craft workers are invited to submit their pieces for display in the pop up gallery which will be curated by an experienced artist, who has volunteered to help in the selection of art to be displayed.

Due to the nature of the festival, its small funding resource and community ethos, the artists will be asked wherever possible to assist with installation and invigilation, when appropriate.

Gallery art pieces will be displayed in secure retail units and supervision will be shared by festival volunteers. There may also be an opportunity to display works in public areas. All ideas and suggestions welcome.

Artists can sell their work with a 10% commission being donated to the festival committee to cover the costs of running the event. A budget has been allocated to cover the costs of purchasing raw materials and the publication of a simple ‘Art Gallery’ leaflet, which will provide information about the artist, work title and contact information. The artist profile will also be listed on the festival website.

The festival has identified several vacant premises throughout the town who have agreed to make them available to festival artists during the Tullamore Arts Festival. These include a selection of potential front window displays, full unit displays (viewable through window), and walk in exhibition space.

Depending on the number of Visual Art applications submitted, an ‘Arts Trail’ may also be developed in the programme. Commercial premises are also encouraged to independently display various art forms in their windows on the weekend of the festival. Just let the festival team know and we will try include it in the programme.

The official ‘Pop up Art Gallery’ will be open 10-5pm each day from Thursday to Monday May 7.
