OVER eighty musicians from the Sacred Heart School in Tullamore took to the stage in the National Concert Hall on Saturday, February 4 to perform as part of the 17th Irish Festival of Youth Orchestras.
Performing alongside orchestras from Wexford, Louth, Galway, Kilkenny and Cork, this young Offaly ensemble gave the performance of their lives.
Under the baton of Regina McCarthy, their repertoire included works by Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and Rimsky Korsakov.
As they sounded their final fortissimo chord they were greeted with rapturous applause followed by a standing ovation from the large Offaly contingent present.
The orchestra was joined by some SHS past pupils, some of whom are members of the National Youth Orchestra and some who have chosen to follow music careers.
The orchestra will now prepare for the Wesley College Interschools Music Festival and Feis Ceoil which will both take place in early March.
