Second world sky-diving record set in Clonbullogue
THE Irish Parachute Club set its second record in a week over Clonbullogue with the 51 person sky-diving formation on Wednesday last.
This followed up a previous record-breaking achievement the previous Monday when the club achieved a 36 strong sky-diving formation.
This beat a pervious record set in Clonbullogue in August of 2007, and already sights have been set on a 70 person formation in 2009.
The record breaking attempts were part of "Boogie Week" which ran until Monday which has been described as "the biggest sky-diving festival that Ireland has ever seen".
Amazingly, many of those who took part in the record-breaking sky-dive only learned to jump in the past year.
Four large and numerous small planes flew in from abroad for the event, with visitors from all over the world attended the sky-diving festival in Clonbullogue.
Tullamore woman Caroline Cassidy took part in both successful record bids. She said both records were a big achievement for the club. "There are between 200 and 300 members which is quite small in world terms. This event is brilliant for us," the veteran of 1,300 jumps said.
