New unit opens at Tullamore hospital
THE first patients attended the new nuclear medicine department this week as it opened its door at Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore.
Welcoming the opening of the new Department, Cllr Brendan Killeavy said that he had campaigned for the last year to have this new department opened to patients and after making several representations to the Minister for Health, James Reilly, TD.
The department opened for its first patients on this Wednesday, February 15 last and is part of the radiology services that will be offered at the hospital for patients.
“This is great news for Tullamore and the wider midland region. Up to this point, patients had to travel to other hospitals to avail of this service.
“It will be great to see this state of the art equipment been used for patients. I also believe that the medical assessment unit at the hospital is going well. I would like to thank the new hospital manager and staff for doing their best to make these changes happen at a time when budgets are constrained.”
