Multi-million Heritage Centre project gets go ahead

William Grant & Sons Ltd., the owner of Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, today announced it has agreed to assume control of the Heritage Centre. It will turn the Centre into a modern, top-class brand experience, which will ultimately attract up to 40,000 tourists annually to Tullamore and the Midlands region.
WILLIAM Grant & Sons have been given the green light to proceed with its multi million re-development of the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre.
The centre was closed by the company in November last and it is now anticipated the new visitor centre will re-open before the 2012 summer season and is expected to attract in the region of 40,000 visitors a year. The re-development works will include the alternation, renovation and extension of the existing heritage centre, which incorporate exhibition space, audio visual installations, ancillary bar restaurants and retail facilities.
Cllr Sinead Dooley, Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Town Council, enthused that it was “great news” that the planning permission went through. “Grants are very optimistic that the centre will open before the summer. This will be huge for the town. The knock on effect from tourism will be huge.” .
Meanwhile, Tullamore Town Council will proceed its €2 million project along the Grand Canal as part of its Capital programme for 2012 and it is expected that this project will be completed by the end of the year.
