IDA meeting on Edenderry sought

LAOIS/Offaly Fine Gael TD, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy is to seek a meeting with the IDA in an effort to attract industry to the North Offaly region, in light of the announcement that the Edenderry-Enfield road upgrade has finally got the go-ahead.
“One of the main barriers to creating employment in Edenderry has always been the issue of access due to the poor road infrastructure, and now that Minister Leo Varadkar has given the go-ahead for the €36m refurbishment of the R402 I have sought a meeting with the IDA with a view to attracting industry into the region” said Deputy Corcoran Kennedy.
The Deputy’s efforts to attract industry into Edenderry have been backed up by the only Fine Gael Councillor in the urban area, Cllr Nichola Hogan who has warmly welcomed the Edenderry-Enfield road upgrade, describing it as “wonderful news” for the area.
“There is an urgent need for new industry in the whole North-Offaly region” said Cllr Hogan, who has pledged to “make every effort” to attract new employment opportunities to the region.
Deputy Corcoran Kennedy has also sought a meeting with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mr. Richard Bruton, in relation to employment in North Offaly, and said she will impress upon the Minister the many positive aspects of the North Offaly region.
“The upgrade of the Edenderry-Enfield road is the most important piece of infrastructure in the entire North Offaly region, and I am delighted that, after an 11 year wait, the project has got the go-ahead during the lifetime of this new Government” said Deputy Corcoran Kennedy, who pointed out that the new road will provide a 12 kilometre stretch of upgraded carriageway which will link Edenderry and Enfield and provide good quality access to the M6.
“The improved road infrastructure will ensure that Edenderry is now a very attractive location for industry, and this is one of the main points I will be emphasising in my meeting with the IDA,” she concluded.
