Edenderry burglary rate alarming

PEOPLE are being urged to be vigilant by one Edenderry town councillor after a number of burglaries in the north Offaly area last week.

Describing the increase as “very worrying”, Cllr Declan Leddin voiced grave concern about the situation after several houses in Clonbullogue and Edenderry were broken into and two pensioners were approached in their homes by individuals posing as ESB employees seeking to gain entry.

“This is a nightmare for any elderly person or couple and I would urge people to be extremely cautious when answering the door to strangers,” stressed Cllr Leddin.

He added, “Community alert groups are doing their best to keep people informed about strangers or strange vehicles seen in the area and passing the information on to the Gardai but everyone needs to be vigilant and aware of increase in the rate of burglaries and the increased threat to people in their own homes.”
