Dave singing a happy tune
OFFALY'S Dave Peyton has made it through to the final four of Guinness' 'Our Thursdays' National Showcase from the Regional Final held in Galway last week.
Daingean singer-songwriter Dave was selected by a panel of music industry experts to go through to the National Showcase which takes place on September 9 in Lavery’s, Belfast.
He will also be very busy this weekend as he performs at the Electric Picnic.
The other three acts through to the final from the 800 hopeful bands who set out on the competition are Empire Saints, Maud in Cahoots and Reko.
Unfortunately Hogan, the county's other hopeful in the later stages of the competition who was also performing last week did not make it through to the last four.
Dave is a singer/songwriter/musician who was raised in Daingean after he and his family moved down from Dublin the early 80s.
He has been very fortunate with gigs, having shared stages in small venues and big festivals with Ireland’s finest including The Frames, The Blizzards, Mundy, The Pogues, The Hothouse Flowers, Declan O’Rourke, Ronnie Drew, The Walls, and many international acts such as, Avril Lavigne, Starsailor, The Editors, Sister Sledge and Mystery Jets. Dave’s debut solo album Couch Lovers was released on iTunes on July 1.
‘Our Thursdays’, this year’s addition to the Arthur’s Day celebrations, honouring the remarkable legacy of Arthur Guinness, gives emerging Irish acts, including Dave, the incredible opportunity to be part of the Arthur’s Day artist line up on September 23 alongside amazing international artists including Snow Patrol and Paolo Nutini.
The panel of judges who selected the four bands is comprised of music industry experts including members of Snow Patrol, Director of Talent at MTV Europe, Matt Cook and Editor of Hotpress Magazine, Niall Stokes.
Speaking about the four bands, Snow Patrol’s Nathan Connolly commented, “The level of talent that we have seen from the Our Thursdays showcases has been incredible. It has made our job as judges extremely difficult. We look forward to playing alongside one of these bands on September 23.”
As well as the incredible opportunity to perform to a crowd of thousands on Arthur’s Day, the best three bands will also receive studio time, a digital release with Universal and will find themselves splashed all over the cover of Hot Press magazine in a special feature, with full details to be revealed at the National Showcase. Our Thursdays events and Arthur’s Day celebrations are strictly over 18’s events.
