Daingean reels in the years with panto magic

IT is twenty-four years ago since the Daingean Musical Group presented their last pantomime, and this year its presentation of ‘Once Upon A Time’ under the direction of Anne Corcoran was hugely successful, with four members of the original cast playing roles.

The story of ‘Once Upon A Time’ sees evil about to be banished from Pantoland, thanks to the wedding of Cinderella’s (played by Catherine Sheeran) daughter to Snow White’s (played by Carol Betson) son.

However, the Wicked Witch, Evelyn played by Sarah Corcoran, sets out to stop the wedding by transporting Princess Lottie (Denise Bracken), and her two assistants Nick (Shauna McGarrigle) and Nack (Jack Fox) to the far reaches of Pantoland.

Prince Marvellous (Mary Colgan), his friend Jack (Paul Keating) and the cook, Gertie (Pat McEvoy), set off to save her.

Along the way, they both met various characters from different stories as they tried to find each other and finally go through with their wedding.

Other charcters such included Charming 1 (Derek Dalton) and Charming 2 (Martin McCourtney). Captain Hook was played by Niall Bolger, the Mad Hatter (Kenneth Poland), March Hare/Wolf (Jamie Nolan), Alice in Wonderland (Tara MCCormack), Red Riding Hood (Brian McCormack). The Seven Dwarves Chorus and Pirates were palyed by Rose Fox, Deboragh Keating, Anne comer, Theresa Kennedy, Cathereine McCourtney, Rebecca Connor, Roisin Madden, Roisin Gallagher, Deirdre Colgan, Gillian Harrington, Becky Stapleton.

This production brought laughter to the town with a packed house and lively audiences each night.

Music for the show was led by Musical Director Liam Bermingham, with Adrian Fox on Guitar and Johnny Field on Drums.

On sound and lights, Darren Cahill, Martin Goulding, Barry Corcoran and David Corcoran.

Stage Managers Seamus McEvoy, Seamus Bracken, Eoin Mangan.

Set Design, Kenneth Poland, Tara McCormack, Catherine McCourtney, Jack Fox, Raymond Fox, Choreography Fiona Mahon, Gillian Harrington, Anne Corcoran.

The Musical Group are contemplating another Panto for next year.
