Crowds come out for Croghan Hill Challenge

There was a big turnout for the Croghan Hill Challenge held on Saturday last.

Close to one thousand people were on the hill taking part and competing in the three different course lengths.

The participants came from right across the island of Ireland to take on the unique challenge posed by the obstacle course on Croghan Hill

The overall winner in the 10k Men’s race was Daingean’s Jody Reilly while Portumna’s Tory Nicholson was first home in the Ladies 10k event.

There were other local winners with Zumba-Bella from Edenderry claiming the coveted Fancy Dress Prize.

5k Men: 1st Olsen O’Carroll, Galway; 2nd Fergal Leonard, Blueball, Offaly; 3rd Ger Murphy Monasterevin, Kildare.

5k Ladies: 1st Shinade Coleman, Mullingar; 2nd Anne Burke, Newtownforbs, Longford; 3rd Laura Lynch, Delvin, Westmeath.

3k Men: 1st Craig Mangan, Edenderry; 2nd Bryan Pidgeon, Ballinagore, Westmeath; 3rd Eoghan Spillane, Daingean.

3k Ladies: 1st Joanne Harney, Croghan; 2nd, Sinead Bryan, 3rd Easter Harney ,Croghan.

U-16 5k Boys: 1st Jack O’Leary, Killucan, Westmeath; 2nd Eoin Connaughten, Brookfield, Mullingar; 3rd Eoghan Gallagher, Milltownpass, Westmeath .

U-16 Ladies: 1st Kaylee Hensey, Rhode playgroup team. 2nd Sarah Glennon, Rhode playground group. 3rd R Egan, Edenderry.

Team winner: Team jjad. Jorden Murphy, Jack Donegan, Daniel O’Reilly, Adam Quinn.

Fancy Dress: Zumba–Bella, Edenderry.
