Cloneygowan pedestrian crossing sought
A pedestrian crossing is badly needed in Cloneygowan Village on the R420 Route between Tullamore and Portarlington.
That’s according to local Councillor Eddie Fitzpatrick who said at present Offaly County Council are installing new traffic lights at the junction in Geashill Village in conjunction with the pedestrian crossings that are already in existance for a number of years now.
Cllr Fitzpatrick states that this is the same road that goes through Cloneygowan village with no crossing for the safety of children attending the local school or the residents of the village.
Residents have been asking for safety measures to be put in place to prevent an accident or even the loss of life in the village and “I will be seeking to have a crossing put in a safe location to prevent an accident or even the loss of a life in Cloneygowan.”
He said a survey carried out by the roads section of Offaly County Council two years ago indicated there was no requirement for a crossing on this very busy route which sees heavy traffic travelling from the N7 motorway to Tullamore and beyond.
“I believe a crossing is a requirement in Cloneygowan and I will be making strong representation for the residents of Cloneygowan,” concluded Councillor Fitzpatrick.
