Clara tackles litter blackspots

editorial image

APART from doing a general clean up around the town as part of the Spring Clean Campaign, the Clara Tidy Towns committee and volunteers tackled some of the local ‘black spot’.

The areas where work was carried out including a derelict site beside the church grotto and around the river banks at the footbridge at River Sreet.

Special thanks to the following who supported the effort: Family Resource Centre, CE Scheme, An Taisce, Offaly CC litter warden and Youthreach. The Transition Year students in Ard Scoil Chiarain Naofa, Clara deserve a special words of thanks for their hard work in cleaning up a really bad area beside the River Street.

Over 30 bags of litter, mainly empty cans, were removed from an area close to the old railway bridge that had been a very bad eyesore for years.

TY co-ordinator Ms McInerney worked closely with Tidy Towns to plan the event, well done to all concerned.

Saturday, May 5 is a date to note in your calendar. WEEE Ireland, the compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling will be holding a collection day. The event, which has been organised in association with Clara Tidy Towns Group, will take place opposite the Ard Scoil from 10am-4pm.

Any household item with a plug or battery will be accepted including kettles, fridges, microwaves, power tools, etc. This is an ideal opportunity to dispose of electrical items that are faulty/ unwanted in a way that protects out environment and is absolutely FREE!
