THERE was an emotional pre-Rose of Tralee moment for the Chicago Rose, Margaret Rose Keating, when she was presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage at Croke Park, Dublin on Monday, August 13.

Margaret Rose, whose Dad James Keating hails from Blueball, Tullamore was among fifteen overseas Roses who gathered on the Etihad Skyline for the celebratory event.

Sporting the Offaly county jersey, Margaret Rose was presented with her certificate by leading Kerryman, Dick Spring.

She can also claim heritage in Counties Limerick and Cork, with maternal grandparents from Abbeyfeale, Lisnagry and Mitchelstown.

The Certificate of Irish Heritage is a Government document, signed by An Tanaiste, Eamon Gilmore, as an official recognition of a person’s Irish ancestry by the Government of Ireland. Anyone in Ireland can give one of these beautiful certificates to their relatives or contacts overseas, as a permanent reminder of the deep emotional ties which link Irish families and communities together.

Each Certificate is a personal record of the recipient’s Irish roots, showing the name of their Irish ancestor and the town or parish in Ireland from which they came. The certificate is a keepsake that can be passed on to future generations.

Dick Spring said “I am delighted to present Margaret Rose with this official Certificate, showing her Offaly roots. I hope Margaret Rose will have a wonderful experience here in Ireland during the Rose of Tralee Festival and that she will treasure this permanent reminder of her links to Ireland.”

This year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival gets underway on Friday, August 17 and will continue until Tuesday, August 21.
