Can't hold 'The Whisht'

THE Whisht, representing Sean Corrigan's in Banagher, Co Offaly won the Vintners' Federation of Ireland (VFI) Stars of our Bars regional final, in association with Smithwick's, which took place at the Seven Oaks, Carlow Town on Friday, June 4.

During a great evening's entertainment, marshalled by RT's Brian Ormond, The Whisht fought off stiff competition from other acts from Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Laois and of course their own county Offaly. Indeed, the evening proved so popular that people had to be turned away from the door as tickets were snapped up by those eager to get in early.

The Whisht and the two runners up will now represent the region in the National Final which takes place on July 3 in the Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin. Each national finalist stands the chance to win up to €7,500 in the National Final.

Padraig Cribben, the CEO of the VFI was in attendance on the night and commented, "We are absolutely delighted with the level of competition here tonight in Carlow Town and it is a testament to all the work done behind the scenes by the county coordinators, the publicans involved and of course the contestants that such a high standard was achieved.

"On behalf of the VFI, I would like to wish the three regional winners the very best of luck in the National Final and would ask everyone to get behind their favourite act over the coming weeks".
