Bishop's 'wedding' postponed

TULLAMORE native and Independent Bishop, Pat Buckley has postponed his wedding to his Filipino boyfriend Eduardo Yango, following a media frenzy.

The civil partnership was due to take place on Monday, but the union was postponed after Mr Yango became publicity shy.

Buckley, a former Catholic priest was suspended as a priest in 1996 and excommunicated after being ordained a bishop by Independent Catholic Bishop Michael Cox in 1998 in the episcopal lineage of Archbishop Ngo Den Thuc.

In 1999 he publicly confirmed his homosexuality and is actively involved in the Gay and Lesbian communities both here and in the UK. His ministry involves giving same-sex blessings as well as holding spiritual seminars for LGB communities. Buckley was due to enter into a civil partnership with his Mr Yango on Monday in Larne, where he lives, but blamed ‘intense media interest for its postponement’.

He said the union would go ahead when his partner had time to “de-stress”.

“Eduardo was on the internet last week and was shocked that there were so many headlines about him,” he added. “You don’t expect a little tinpot civil partnership in Larne to be reported all around the world. I’m a little bit disappointed, but at the same time I’m a realist,” he added.

He said he had received a huge of amount of support and had been inundated with emails and text messages since he announced the marriage.
