Arizona Rose visits Tullamore

ARIZONA Rose Danielle McBurnett visited Tullamore last Thursday and Friday in advance of her trip to Kerry to take part in the final competition of the Rose of Tralee.

Tullamore is twinned with Chandler, a City in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA, and it is a prominent suburb of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. The population of the city is 240,595 and in US terms, the town's population is comparable to that of Tullamore in relative terms.

The 18 year old Arizona Rose has had a busy career to date and works as a registered nurse at the Arizona State University Center for Improving Health Outcomes in Children, Teens and Families, whilst pursuing a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in order to become a paediatric nurse practitioner. She was the youngest registered nurse in the state of Arizona at the age of 17, was the recipient of various scholarships and of the Outstanding Representative of Community Involve-ment Award, as well as receiving recognition from Barack Obama as a featured student at Arizona State University.

The Tullamore Twinning project has an ongoing agenda and sets out to build relationships with businesses in Chandler through education, technology and business development.

Speaking about the Rose's visit Brian Garvan, Chairperson of the Tullamore Sister Cities Committee and Executive Director of Atlantic Corridor said "We are delighted with the opportunity to have Danielle in Tullamore and to meet the committee. Danielle, through her short career, has demonstrated maturity, professionalism and many other qualities which make her an excellent choice of Rose for Arizona. We believe Danielle will go a long way in this competition and we wish her every success with it."

Chairperson of Tullamore Town Council Molly Buckley said, "Danielle's visit to Tullamore demonstrates the commitment between Chandler and Tullamore to continue to develop strong business and cultural relationships with each other. Tullamore Town Council is proud of its association with Chandler and look forward to cheering Danielle on next week."
