AIT to provide courses in Offaly
ATHLONE Institute of Technology is to provide a number of courses in Offaly, following an agreement reached with Offaly VEC.
The agreement will facilitate progression from Post Leaving Certificate Courses in Offaly to courses in the Institute. A further strand of the agreement will enable AIT to deliver certain courses in the county in partnership with Offaly VEC.
Mr Edward McEvoy, Acting CEO, said, "I am delighted that we have been able to progress this vital initiative which will further increase participation in 3rd Level in County Offaly. When the economy begins to recover initiatives like this will better position the young people in Offaly to avail whatever opportunities becomes available."
There has been ongoing concern for many years in Offaly at the fact that the county has one of the country's lowest third-level participation rates, and it is generally felt that this is linked to its low position in the league of disposable incomes.
