TWENTY ONE local charities, groups and sport clubs received a helping hand from Tullamore Credit Union under the Community Support Fund.

Announcing the recipients, Mr. Denis Daly, the manager of Tullamore Credit Union, was delighted to welcome representatives from a variety of groups to the announcement of the funding last week.

He explained that applications were invited early in 2012 and were asked to submit an application for a specific project they would use the funding for.

The manager enthused that the Credit Union hope to run this initiative again in 2013.

“It is great to see such a diversity of projects and we hope to be in a position to provide funding for a similar amount of groups again next year,” he added.

Mr. Tony Flanagan, Chairperson of Tullamore Credit Union, pointed out that they had a ‘duty to support community groups’.

“We believe that communities working together can restore our country and our local area,” he said.

Mr. Flanagan explained that the Community Support Fund was “borne out of the desire to give back to the community” and noted the great work of the groups who applied under the Fund.

Later Cllr, Sinead Dooley, Chairperson of Tullamore Town Council, paid tribute to the fund.

“Every bit of financial support for groups is needed and it is very welcome and much needed.”
