Sean O’Brien Leinster and Ireland Rugby hero has pledged his support for Special Olympics Ireland’s Collection Day, which will take place throughout Ireland on Friday, April 27. This is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland and is hugely important to the organisation.

The Ireland star is urging people throughout Offaly to help out on the day by volunteering to collect in their local town for a few hours.

Sean O’Brien remarked, “I am proud to fan the flame for Special Olympics Ireland. Special Olympics athletes are hugely dedicated to their sport and train very hard to be the best they can be. By volunteering to collect on April 27th we will all be showing these athletes just how much we support them.”

The aim of Special Olympics Collection Day, which is proudly supported by eircom, is to raise as much funds as possible to build and support the programme of sports training and competition offered by Special Olympics Ireland so that every person with an intellectual disability has the opportunity to be involved.

250 volunteers will be needed throughout Co. Offaly to look after the collection points in Tullamore, Birr and Edenderry.

Annette Codd, Regional Director Special Olympics Leinster said, “This is our largest annual fundraising event and as such is of huge importance to us. We need volunteers to help us collect on the day to ensure we are successful. Even a few hours will make a huge difference to us. Every donation we receive on April 27 will help us to further realise our promise of changing the lives of people with Intellectual Disabilities in every county in Leinster.”
