THE annual All-Ireland Trout Angling Competition for anglers with special needs took place at Loch an Dochais, Kilcormac on Sunday, May 27.
Over twenty anglers from seven different counties took part. The weather was beautiful, competition was very keen and a very good catch was recorded. A catch of thirty-five trout was weighed in.
The results were; 1st and winner of the Mary Robinson Perpetual Trophy Jim Houlihan representing Tipperary with a catch of four trout weighing 9.25lbs. In 2nd place was local man Rodge Molloy with a catch of four trout weighing 6.3lbs. Third place went to Darragh Kelly with a catch of four trout weighing 6lbs.
At the presentation of prizes which took place in St Joseph’s Community Centre, Kilcormac, Chairperson Seamus Barron welcomed everyone and said he hoped they all enjoyed the day.
He stated that all anglers who took part were winners regardless of whether they won prizes or not. He praised the high standard of angling of the day’s angling on the lake.
He thanked Bord na Mona, Kilcormac Development Association and Inland Fisheries Ireland for their very generous sponsorship and said without them it would not be possible to run this competition.
He also thanked all the helpers at the lake and the ladies who provided the lovely refreshments. Mr John McNiff of Bord na Mona presented the winners with their prizes. He wished all a safe journey home and looked forward to seeing them all again next year.
In the youth angling competition, some twenty anglers took part. The winners were; 1st Emma Hannon, Kilcormac, 2nd Oisin Barron, Kilcormac & 3rd Darra Coughlan, Ferbane.
