THIS year’s Fleadh Cheoil Uíbh Fhailí is to be held by Offaly’s newest branch - West Offaly Comhaltas.
This branch draws from the areas of Banagher, Ferbane and Lusmagh.
The Fleadh Committee, chaired by Damien Lynch, has worked tirelessly over the last few months and have put together a great line up for this year’s Offaly Fleadh.
It will be a fantastic opportunity for comhaltas and non comhaltas members, families and friends to come together and join in and enjoy fantastic entertainment.
Banagher College (Colaiste na Sionna) will be the central hub for the Fleadh this year with nearly all competitions and events taking place here.
The High Kings will kick off the Fleadh weekend with a concert in Banagher College on the Friday night.
On both Saturday and Sunday there will be a full programme of competitions culminating with Padraig Duffy broadcasting Midlands 103’s Coppers and Brass live from the school. T
here is a big emphasis this year on new competitions such as sean nós dancing and new tune composition. As with any Fleadh a big crowd is expected for the Ceilí Band and Grupaí Cheoil competitions.
The standard is always exceptionally high with many competitors from Offaly proceeding to and winning at Leinster and All Ireland level.
Elsewhere there will also be different events throughout the town itself including a gig-rig in the square which will feature many top quality musicians from around Offaly.
For more information on this year’s Offaly Feadh and other Offaly Comhaltas news and events you can find us on Facebook, logging on to www.offalyfleadh.com or listen in to Padraig Duffy on Midlands 103 every Sunday at 6pm.
