AN TAOISEACH along with Government ministers and TDs were welcomed to Tullamore by hundreds of young Fine Gael supporters at the weekend.
The Young FG conference, held in the Bridge House Hotel, saw a variety of issues thrashed out.
Laois/Offaly TD, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy addressed the conference on Friday. Congratulating delegates on choosing FG, she claimed that it ‘has again fallen to our party to rebuild the state and balance the public finances’.
While Mairead McGuinness, MEP raised the issue of Ireland’s youth unemployment rate of almost 30%, which is to be the target of a European Commission action team to explore how unspent EU structural funds could be used to address the issue.
“Given that many of these young people worked in sectors such as construction and manufacturing, to a large extent their skills do not match the current marketplace needs.”
Meanwhile An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny was greeted by a small group of protesters when he arrived to address the conference.
