CLARA Library was alive with energy on Friday last as it played host to local hero Ronan Scully along with author and RTE’s Operation Transformation fitness expert Karl Henry as part of the Bord Gáis Energy READISCOVER Your Local Library campaign. Karl invited Ronan, star slimmer on this year’s Operation Transformation to join him at the event.

Karl was in Clara library to speak about the inspiration for his book ‘Real Results’. He also fielded questions about fitness and diet from the audience of local community members. Ronan said he was delighted to have the opportunity to come back to Clara and to support Karl given all the support Karl had given him during Operation Transformation.

“Clara Library brings back many happy memories for me from my school days. I haven’t been here for a few years so it was a wonderful surprise today to see what a beautiful facility it now is. I’m really impressed. Clara Library has so much to offer for the community with a great range of books as well as computers and all sorts of facilities.”

Ronan is busy training for the North Pole Marathon which takes place on April 7. Karl has been helping him with his preparations and he hopes to complete the gruelling task in nine to ten hours.

Many of Ireland’s favourite authors have given generously of their time to invite people to READISCOVER just how great their local library is. Paul Howard, John Boyne, Sinead Moriarty, Roddy Doyle and Benji Bennett join Donal Óg Cusack, Karl Henry and Brent Pope during the Bord Gáis Energy READISCOVER Your Local Library campaign which takes place nationwide for the month of March.

Run in association with the public library service, the Bord Gáis Energy READISCOVER your local library initiative encourages people to think about all their library has to offer and the services they provide to all members of the community, whatever their age! Libraries around the country are celebrating the campaign with a wide range of activities including cookery demonstrations, author readings, book signings, writing workshops, opera workshops and much more.

Speaking about the initiative, County Librarian Mary Stuart said, “We are delighted to work with Bord Gáis Energy on this fantastic programme. Libraries all around the country are busier than ever, and the READISCOVER month celebrates all the great things they do throughout the year.”
