The Fancy dress fun run around the 5mile in Edenderry on Sunday, October 21 has gained massive momentum. After an appeal on Face book for help, organiser and founder of EDWIB Nida Collins has been blown away by the response.
“Edenderry people always come up trumps when asked to support worthy causes,” Nida says.
The fun run is starting from the square at 2pm on Sunday, October 21. People are asked to come in fancy dress. Registration is €10 but children under 12 go free as long as they dress up. It’s a chance for kids to try out their Halloween costumes.
Women are asked to wear colourful bras on the outside of their shirts to celebrate breast health awareness. The emphasis is on health not cancer. All the schools and clubs in Edenderry will be taking part and musicians and buskers are invited to entertain along the route.
The route follows what is known locally by walkers as the five mile. It will start at The Town Hall go down Fr Paul Murphy St, the Tunnel Rd, right towards Cloncannon, up Fury’s Hill, Drumcooley right over Walsh’s Bridge to Killane crossroads, down St Marys Rd, JKL St and back to the square.
Neighbours along the route are asked to come out and support the runners, walkers, and crawlers! Water tables will be provided on the route by residents.
Our very own Mrs Brown and Jedward will be making an appearance and Mag Brady will be entertaining the crowds of runners, and supporters before and after the run.
There will be a balloon release before the run in remembrance of those we have lost from cancer. Balloons can be purchased for the balloon release on the day and all profits will go to the fund.
All money collected will be put in a comfort fund called “little wishes” which will provide small treats for local people going through cancer. It maybe just a break from treatment at a local spa, a trip to the cinema, house cleaning, gardening, a meal out, a round of golf or a hair do. These little luxuries will brighten up the day for someone who is going through a difficult time during their treatment.
