A HOWLING gale, wind-swept marquees and dozens of excited schoolboys and schoolgirls along with a television personality and an enthusiastic chef all mixed together to make the recent Family Fun Day hosted by Tullamore Town Schoolboys and Girls Football Club a major success.
Hundreds of people turned up at Leah Victoria Park for the event which was months in the planning by a highly organised committee of parents and club officials.
Apart from the bouncey castles and slides, tournaments and medal presentations there was also a Country Market and Craft Fair which nearly did not go ahead due to the high winds.
However, quick-thinking volunteers moved the Country Market and Craft Fair to the leeward side of the clubhouse where local chef Jamie Owens of Jamie’s Kitchen even managed to put on a very informative and entertaining cookery demonstration in a doorway!!
TV3 newsman Brian Daly (a former player with the club) was on hand for the presentation of medals to the club’s various schoolboy and schoolgirl teams while DJ Kev provided disco entertainment all afternoon.
There was also a Tullamore’s Got Talent competition which attracted a varied selection of participants of all ages and styles.
Organiser-in-chief Mary Walsh told the Offaly Express that the club was delighted with the turnout on the day and relieved that it all went so well considering the panic when the winds threatened to blow down the marquees.
“We would like to say a big thank you to all who participated and supported the day in any way and especially to our sponors 3 Mobile, without all of them the day would not have been such a success,” added Mary.
