171 litter fines, totalling €30,500, were issued by Tullamore Town Council in 2011, Tullamore Town councillors heard last week.
Updating Tullamore Town councillors on its implementation of the Litter Pollution Act 1997, Mr. Paul Devaney, Town Engineer, explained that the Council works closely with the Tidy Town Committee and IBAL in relation to the management of litter in the town.
He enthused that the town “has improved greatly over the last few years” and pointed out that the groups and committees continued to work together on the remaining “black spots” around the town. The Town Engineer stressed that the Council would like to continue to clean the streets 364 days a year but it was dependent on the budget.
Following the annual report, Cllr. Tommy McKeigue thanked the officials for their work on this issue. “Everyone is putting their shoulder to the wheel on this,” he stated.
