€160,000 cannabis seized in Kilbeggan
GARDAI seized cannabis with a street value of €160,000, during a raid on a house in Kilbeggan last week.
AS a result of an ongoing operation targeting “cannabis grow houses” based in the Kildare and Westmeath Counties members of the Garda National Drugs carried out a search of the premises in Kilbeggan last Thursday.
They were assisted by Gardaí based in Naas and Mullingar.
On searching the premises 400 cannabis plants were discovered which have a potential street value of approximately €160,000 – subject to analysis. A substantial amount of sophisticated equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis was also seized.
A 34 year old man was arrested at the scene and was detained at Naas Garda Station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act. He was released without charge and a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
A follow up search in Rathangan, Co Kildare resulted in the seizure of additional equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis.
