A Brazilian man has denied murdering his flatmate at the apartment they shared in Tullamore.

However Marcio da Silva has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Joselita da Silva in Tara Street on October 22, 2009.

On Monday the Central Criminal Court heard that Mr da Silva, no relation to the murdered woman, allegedly stamped on her head 30 times in the flat's kitchen.

The court heard that the 31 year old repeatedly stabbed the separated mother with a kitchen knife as he had become "attached" to her.

He said he had become jealous when Ms da Silva decided to spend the weekend with her Polish boyfriend, instead of the accused.

"I lost my mind, my mind went crazy" Mr da Silva said in interviews following his arrest.

The court heard after the stabbing he had rang his brother and said he wanted to kill himself. When Gardai arrived at the scene they discovered Mr da Silva wearing blood stained shorts.

The case is continuing before a jury of ten men and two women in Dublin.
