‘Stab’ threat to Garda in Tullamore

A man who told a Garda he’d end up like a Polish native who died of stab wounds has had his case adjourned.

A man who told a Garda he’d end up like a Polish native who died of stab wounds has had his case adjourned.

Judge Catherine Staines said she would like to see a probation report that is being prepared for Tullamore Circuit Court, for Robertas Kalinauskas (21) of 23 The Granary, Market Square, Tullamore.

On April 8 this year at 2.52am, Gardai asked a man to cease his behaviour on William Street, but he went on to call a woman a slut, and pushed her.

He told Garda Keith Ryan that he would end up “like the Polish fellow down the road who had been stabbed,” Inspector Kieran Keyes said.

However, Solicitor Donal Farrelly said the Garda had misunderstood what the man meant, saying they’d been discussing the case of the Polish man before Gardai arrived.

It was his Lithuanian client’s very poor English which led to the confusion, he said.

He will appear before Judge Staines again on July 11.
