OPERATION Transformation’s Adrian Brereton from Edenderry charmed the nation with his honesty and down to earth attitude during the filming of the very popular series.
What got the attention of the audience was Adrian’s refusal to be photographed with his family four years ago because he couldn’t bear to look at himself on the wall due to his size.
Adrian who is a huge family man commissioned renowned portrait art photographer Nida Collins to photograph his family. Nida, whose reputation as a specialist children and family photographer is well known locally but her work has brought her to the UK, Spain and the States with an impressive client list for over 15 years and numerous awards at national and international level.
Despite Nida’s insistence that Adrian be involved in the family portrait, he refused. Although he was missing from the portrait Adrian loved the image of his wife Anna and the kids and it hung proudly among the individual canvasses of his children for the past four years.
However as time went on and Adrian reached 40 it affected him all the more that he wasn’t in the portrait and it became his goal and dream to replace the image with one including a slimmer fitter Adrian. He applied to the Operation Transformation programme and was ecstatic when he was accepted to be a leader.
Adrian took his leadership title seriously which didn’t surprise the locals as Adrian is from a family of boxing and sporting heroes.
All his dreams came through a couple of weeks ago when Adrian returned to Nida over three stone lighter with his family to have a new portrait made.
The Brereton family had the real Nida portrait experience in her new studio and venue called The Glade just outside Edenderry.
The finished portrait of the complete Brereton Family was admired by the nation and Adrian is at last a very proud husband and father.
Adrian’s wife Anna admits that her favourite family image is the one where the family are having fun outside in the rain on the couch! “Nida is so much fun and her creative ideas are amazing. the kids had a ball, and Adrian was in his element playing with the kids which is what he does best!”
