FORTY seasonal jobs were lost at Grant Engineering in Birr this week.
The decline in the building sector has been blamed for the losses which have taken place over the past six weeks.
A spokeswoman for the company said the workers may be re-hired if they are required, as this has happened before.
The workers had been with the firm for the last two years and were employed on a seasonal basis.
Based in Crinkle the company manufactures and supplies domestic oil fired boiled to both Ireland and the UK and in the past has employed up to 270 people at its factory.
Over the past few years, Grant Engineering has won several awards for product, innovation and their commitment to the heating industry.
