Forced to jump from burning building

A man and a child had a lucky escape last Thursday from a house fire in Church View, Tullamore.

A man and a child had a lucky escape last Thursday from a house fire in Church View, Tullamore.

On going downstairs the man discovered his home was on fire and on returning back upstairs to the child discovered he could not get down again. The pair were forced to jump from an upstairs window and thankfully were not seriously injured.

It took two fire appliances half an hour to get the blaze under control and they were two hours at the scene.

Meanwhile quick thinking by Garda in Edenderry saved lives at the weekend.

Garda on patrol noticed smoke coming from an apartment building in Edenderry. After calling the fire services, six people had to be rescued from a building in JKL Street early on Sunday morning.

Fire Services were called at 5.26am to White House Lodge. It took three appliances from Edenderry Fire Services with the support of Tullamore Fire Services 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Five of the six were taken to hospital following their rescue.

Garda are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the scene has been examined by the Garda Forensic Unit.
