The news that the National Ploughing Championships are to be staged in the midlands in Laois next year is a huge boost for the entire region.
The 2013 Ploughing Championships are certain to attract record attendances, with an anticipated turnout in the region of 200,000 for the three days in September from September 24 to 26.
It is estimated that the Championships will generate an estimated €40m in economic activity in 2013, and neighbouring counties such as Offaly and Kildare will benefit from this.
Indeed, this region has proved to be the most suitable and strategic location for the staging of this event, and others like it. It may seem cliched to say it, but is is worth reiterating that our location and the attendant infrastructure in terms of road and rail networks is something that we should be continually be seeking to capitalise on.
